Reclaimed and Sustainable Wood for the Bay Area, Since 1999Wide plank reclaimed wood flooring, reclaimed wood beams, barn siding, Accoya®, and FSC-certified hardwood. We work with architects, designers, builders, and homeowners throughout Northern California to find the right material for every project.
Whether you are designing a custom home, building a winery project in Napa, sourcing WUI-compliant siding in Sonoma County, or planning a commercial project in San Francisco, we provide the right wood for the space and its surrounding environment. Our collection includes antique reclaimed wood salvaged from old-growth structures, FSC®-certified hardwoods, wide-plank flooring, and high-performance exterior products designed for California’s demanding coastal, mountain, and wildfire-prone climates, including Accoya® and thermally modified wood. From custom homes in Marin, Sonoma, and Napa to commercial projects for Pixar, Apple, Whole Foods, and Starbucks, most projects still begin the same way they always have, with a conversation. Our Story Black’s Farmwood began with a storm. When it destroyed our family’s antique oak tobacco barn in Ohio, I asked if I could take it apart rather than let generations of old-growth wood go to waste. Working alongside my two grandfathers, we dismantled it board by board. What started with one collapsed barn became a nearly 30-year commitment to reclaimed and sustainable wood. It is still the foundation of everything we do. Visit Our Petaluma Showroom Come experience the texture, tone, and story behind every board. We work by appointment, giving each client our full attention, samples, comparisons, finish options, and honest guidance on what will perform best for your project. "We recently installed over 2,000 SF of Accoya siding supplied by Michael and his team. In the construction industry, it's very clear when someone is just a salesman versus a true believer in their products. Michael is the latter. If you're serious about top of the line finish materials, you can't do much better than Black's Farmwood."

WHAT WE OFFERWide plank reclaimed wood flooring, antique beams, barn siding, Accoya®, FSC®-certified hardwoods, and thermally modified exterior wood for residential and commercial projects throughout Northern California. Our materials include antique oak salvaged from Midwestern tobacco barns, European oak flooring milled to order, and high-performance exterior products designed to perform in coastal salt air, wet winters, and wildfire-prone hillsides.
We work with architects, designers, builders, and homeowners across San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, and Napa. Whether the project calls for the raw character of reclaimed barn oak, the clean lines of contemporary European flooring, or exterior cladding designed for demanding coastal or wildfire-prone environments, our focus remains the same: sourcing wood products that feel authentic, perform reliably, and improve with age. |
WHY CLIENTS WORK WITH USEvery project has its own logic. A modern farmhouse in Sonoma calls for something different than a LEED-certified commercial build in San Francisco or a mountain retreat above Tahoe. Material, finish, and performance requirements change with the climate, the design, and the client.
After years of custom milling and sourcing reclaimed, sustainable, and specialty wood products, we understand what these spaces demand. Designers and architects working on high-end residential homes look for tight grain, clean face, and character that photographs well. Green building projects require FSC® certification, low-VOC finishes, and documentation. Homes in wildfire-prone areas need materials that meet WUI requirements without sacrificing warmth or beauty. |
HOW THE PROCESS WORKSBecause most of our materials are custom-milled or made to order, every project begins with a conversation. From there, we provide photos, samples, specifications, lead times, and honest guidance on what will perform best in your environment.
Clients are welcome to visit our Petaluma showroom to see the materials in person, run their hands across the grain, compare finishes side by side, and gain a clearer understanding of which material best fits the project. We work by appointment, which means when you visit, you have our full attention. |
