Antique European White Oak Flooring

These flooring boards are selected for the qualities associated with traditional European and French oak flooring: live sawn figure, wide growth rings, and the natural grain variation that gives old-world oak its unmistakable character. Cathedral graining, rift grain, and quartered figure can all appear within the same plank, creating movement and variation across the floor rather than a uniform repeated pattern.
The source is domestic antique white oak reclaimed from at least 100-year-old barns, but the appearance reads distinctly European in scale, texture, and grain. Spike knots, mineral staining, weathered patina, and areas of pronounced figure are not added effects. They are the result of decades of natural aging and previous use, and part of what gives the floor its depth and authenticity. We lightly fume the surface to deepen the wood’s natural tones without masking what is underneath. The result feels restrained rather than rustic. A floor with real age and texture that still sits comfortably within refined contemporary architecture. Variation from plank to plank is part of the point. Some boards are quieter and cleaner. Others reveal heavier grain movement and more evidence of previous use. That range is what keeps large installations from feeling flat or repetitive, and what allows the floor to feel more natural over time. |
