Reclaimed Wood Box Beams
Reclaimed wood box beams are built using antique hand-hewn or rough-sawn barn wood reclaimed from historic structures across North America. They capture the scale, texture, and aged character of solid antique timbers while remaining lightweight enough for applications where full structural beams are unnecessary or impractical. They also work especially well as cladding over existing structural members such as glulams, giving engineered timber a more natural and authentic appearance.
Available in hand-hewn and rough-sawn finishes, each box beam retains the weathered patina, saw marks, checking, and surface character of the original material. Because the wood comes from genuine reclaimed timbers, no two beams are exactly alike. Variation from piece to piece is part of what gives them their warmth and authenticity. Our reclaimed box beams are custom-built to project specifications and available in two-sided, three-sided, and four-sided configurations, depending on the installation. All box beams are heat-treated and pad-sanded to create a more uniform surface while retaining the wood's reclaimed texture and aged character. They can be supplied unfinished or prefinished, with custom sizing and surface preparation available for both residential and commercial applications. Box beams work especially well in vaulted ceilings, kitchen ceiling details, great rooms, timber frame homes, and commercial interiors where the appearance of large reclaimed timbers is desired without the weight or installation requirements of solid beams. |
